I got a job as a shop assistant at a really nice French boutique that sold clothing. When I say French, I mean that it was in France. I struggled to remember my French and as soon as I was put on my first shift, the shop was flooded with people.

One such person was a young boy, reminding me very much of the main male protagonist in Francois Truffaut's film Les quatre cent coups. He wasn't quite a teen, dressed in black and had a shorn head. He kept trying to steal things from the shop and forced me to be rough with him. I would grab him by his collar and roughly escort out of the shop and unsuccessfully lock him out. My work colleague didn't seem fussed by him and told me that he was an alcoholic, and a frequent nuisance to the shop.

One man caught that I wasn't French and started speaking to me in English, to slight my French skills. I said "putain" to him and he laughed.

Another Englishman asked me for help. He eyed my skirt and slid his hand up my exposed thigh. I told him off and said he couldn't get away with that sort of thing and his friends laughed. He tried to touch my leg again and I slapped him. This seemed to amuse him. His eyes sparkled.

I struggled with running the shop and my work colleague didn't seem intent on helping me.

My parents had moved to a new house. It looked to be on Flinders St in the city, but for some reason was said to be in North Fitzroy. The house was a mansion. I went to a nearby park and encountered some men with affectionate dogs. I scooped up my cat to protect him and walked up a street. He sat in my arms calmly, without complaint. As I walked, we passed a man being attended to by a man and woman as he'd falled off his bike and been hurt slightly.

When I returned to this new home, I went to my laptop and there were Melbourne Twitter people newly added onto my IM client (@coliwilso, @evolkween). There were new messages from other people.

There was some sort of play and I was a member of the musical band that played the music for the play. Most of the people seemed to be from EMS. Three main members had main parts in the play. For some reason, we were to move around some alternate version of Melbourne Uni performing. We were in costume and had to sing at certain times.

dream, Wed 4/3/09

Semi-hallucinatory drug-induced (legal, sleeping pill) episode where I was in an opulent, golden hall, with people equally opulently dressed, as if they belonged to an ancient cult. It reminded me of Eyes Wide Shut.

Later on, a proper dream. I was cleaning my room, and found a drawer of old classical music programmes. I leafed through them and couldn't remember having seen the performers. One of them had notes in French from a Swedish flautist. The conversation was set out like an instant messaging conservation. I remember thinking that it had been a long time since my French was so fluent. Some of the words looked made-up.
