dream #2, Sat 28/11/09

Real life background: my partner woke me up and left my house to do a few errands. I fell asleep while he was gone and my dream was a continuation of what I would have been doing plus the added surrealism of dreams.

I looked at my stereo clock and instead of it not being set, it was keeping tabs on when my partner was going to return, like a reverse timer.

I woke up and went into the kitchen of the house I now live in. I opened the fridge and in it was a can of wakame soy beans. I was thrilled. I took the can out and it was some weird gourmet sort of thing - there were indentations on the can to tell me who the can had been prepared by - a Christopher. The can had a ring pull. I opened it and to my disappointment, the can was not full of lush edamame-type soy beans in their glistening pods, but dried lentils, yellow and green. I looked for a container to put them into.

As I was wrestling with my gourmet beans, my partner was fixing my father's computer and I was thrilled with him. We might have high-fived because fixing my father's computer is semi-naughty given my father doesn't want to admit there is an awful lot of shit on his computer (in real life). I then told him I would try reading 75 books next year, if 50 books this year wasn't too much of a challenge.

I exited the patio door. Outside were people, flashing massive post-it notes - messages to people. I had one from my friend Katie. It was a really sweet message. I shouted to the crowd that I was the person the message was intended for, but no one seemed impressed.

I headed back in, and me, my partner and my mother sat down on the sunroom couch to watch an episode of Felicity where two couples on the plane are seated next to each others' partners. A child dies on the plane and has to cremated, no funeral. His grandparents and parents are devastated.

dream, Tue 24/11/09

My dreams are getting more convoluted. This could mean something...

There was some kind of party at my house which was stripped - of furniture, wires, pictures hanging on the wall. In some parts of the house, the walls were completely knocked out. The party was for me, but my brother invited a whole bunch of his friends who turned out to be really nice. Everybody got very drunk. People wrote on the shorts I was wearing, and I didn't even realise. Every now and then I would be jokingly chased by a boy and run towards my partner to save me. There was a food fight in one part of the house. I saw what looked like cheese and chickpeas in a puddle and even against my better judgement, put a finger in the dip to taste it, even though it was a hot day.

We were all wild. We hung off exposed beams and ripped wires out of the walls. My father was pretty mad. He said everyone was so polite, till they got drunk.

My brother tried to come into my skeleton of a room. All my things were packed up into Victorian furniture. I pulled my laptop out. I told him to get out. He wouldn't listen, so I started to bludgeon him with a vintage mirror. Eventually, he left.

* * *

This gave way to some sort of ancient Greek mythological setting. I was watching a wall, overgrown with ivy and other things. It would shift and change, as if to 'refresh' itself, in panels.

There were two Greek gods, a female and male. The female told the male to be still so she could go into his body to heal him in a certain place. Later on, she had a child. I was that child, and grew up to be beautiful. I had a purpose to serve. Once I served my purpose, three other gods bludgeoned me to death and my mother was furious. I consumed BPAL imps - literally, glass and all. I was able to chew on them. I was worried that eating them meant I wasn't getting to sample them.

* * *

In another setting, this time with my parents and some other people. We are on some sort of camp, and it's set in the outback on a hill. I meet a boy, whose parents snub me. I offer to shake their hands but they start to make fun of me, and my apparent high-falutin ways, even though I am just trying to be friendly. The boy is so embarrassed. I start screaming at my mother, and telling her why I prefer to talk to my father over her. We all hop on a weird train, and the boy follows me.

I turn into a beautiful girl, with fair skin, blonde hair and large blue eyes. He falls in love with me and sets fire to a man who looks like Craig McLachlan in order to win my love. I am distraught. He tries to carry the charred body away for me. He is hospitalised, and I can't even visit him or touch him because he is so burnt. I am disgusted.

Girls dive into a green pool to fundraise, for what I'm not sure. The boy's parents drive into a hazard but no one misses them because they are so horrible and right-wing.

dream, Mon 23/11/09

I think some of this dream is a result of reading Stephen King's short story in The New Yorker from two weeks ago. It's about a couple and their pet dog.

At first, I dreamt that my family got a small dog. He looked like a Dachshund and had sleek, glossy chestnut brown fur. I was angry because although my father had always wanted a pet dog, he wasn't going to take the time to walk him. I started to schedule times when I could take the dog for regular walks.

Then, I was in high school again. I was late to my class, but was the only one there. My father was the teacher. I asked Dad why he was our substitute teacher. He didn't really explain. Eventually, more people turned up but not before I had a chance to get some chocolate snacks - Kit Kats, Wagon Wheels and something else I really like in real life.

When I snuck out of class again to help someone, someone stole my chocolates. I was pretty annoyed. My friend Sean was there. I think my classmate Shauna was the one who stole my chocolates, though she would not admit to doing so.

After class, Dad waited in the car for me as I had more classes. He didn't want me to ride home on my bike. I started to feel sick and fluey. Later on, Dad explained that he had put his name down for something to volunteer as part of mental health and disability within the community, that was how he was called to be my substitute teacher.

Quite some convoluted dreaming. Let's see how I go with getting them down.

Again, on some sort of school or family-type camp. I think we're in the Philippines. I'm spending a few days some family friends for some sort of special occasion - I can't remember which exactly.

The next part of the special occasion requires myself and my brother to fly to Auckland to take part in some video game-inspired tournament. We can't go, as we can't afford to. Also, I'm looking after my family friends' siblings as they are too lazy to. I have to pack up my room at camp, as well as theirs and we all have to be out by 5pm. I also have to pack up my mother's room. I'm stressed.

They fly off to New Zealand and I feel very lonely. So lonely that I want to spend time with my mother but she has to go to work. I begin to wander around the Philippines and go to some shopping centre. I'm sifting through comics and Peanuts stickers when I stumble across a class for children. They are doing some sort of improv/theatre workshop. I see 'Oulipo' mentioned and jot down the title of the book they are working from which is translated from Italian. The teacher invites me to talk about Oulipo.

They peer at my legs and bind them and ask me to pirouette. I tell them that my legs do not have hair because I felt it kinder to those who might see them, in the heat of the Australian sun.

I suddenly found myself in my old village. There were lots of bars. I went to one and ordered a pint of Carlton Draught and the bartender said it was the last one left. I didn't want to drink the last one, so I told him I'd be back when I had money and would order something else. I thought about calling @casus_belli to see if he fancied an impromptu drunkard session.

* * *

Then all of a sudden, I was dining and drinking with @rperdio and @tristankenney. Ryan took us to some swanky joints and I found myself at a table with my old schoolmates - Evan, Damien, Frank, Steven M. Someone was marrying Jane and they were cutting glass bowls to steal. I disapproved but drank my gorgeous alcoholic drink.

I was in some sort of video game. The video game resembled work. A woman told me off because she said 'take down' to me and I didn't understand what she meant. I asked her, and she told me to stop being smart with her. I said I really didn't know what she meant and was sorry. She just told me to drop what I was holding and leave, as all employees were instructed to do so.

There was a part of the place we were in that was the 'hard' part of the video game. We all kept getting killed.

* * *

My mother and brother were arguing. Apparently the only way I could settle the argument was by phoning Stephen Fry. I rang him, and we were looking at the same page of a book, comparing the illustration. I corrected him and he thanked me. I was telling my brother and mother that I corrected Stephen Fry who knows all about something! They didn't know who he was. I didn't understand how they could not know when we'd all lived in England for so long.

dream, Thu 29/10/09

Again, I was going to fail some English exam in high school. I'm supposed to have read the same book I haven't finished reading in all the dreams I've had recently. I think it's a non-fiction book, and I've missed a lot of class in the second semester.

I try to call this horrible person I was semi-seeing last year. He changes his number without telling me. I call the old number and get a very angry woman instead. She is mad at this guy too - he used to live as her housemate and has left her suddenly without giving appropriate funds.

I am staying in this beautiful mansion. My family are there - and because the house is so large, I don't get to see them much. My mother has booked some sort of compulsory family holiday while I'm supposed to have my English exam which I know I shall fail. It takes me quite some wrangling to get out of going.

I find out that my brother is cheating on his wife - he's found a girlfriend. I'm furious. I voice these misgivings with my mother who says that all men are supposed to stray after a while. I say, what, even though his wife is expecting a child? Mum says especially so. I am disgusted with my brother and decide I don't ever want to see him again. I say that I will be out of this mansion as soon as my exams are over.

My brother decides I am too degenerate to sleep on this special mattress he paid money for. The mattress is made of foam and is breaking up. I accuse my brother of being a fucking hipster and say fine, I don't want anything to do with you.

* * *
I'm still in this weird mansion and apparently I have a new boyfriend, a friend I met on Twitter. This apparently helps me decide I want to be with my current real-life partner, who I keep trying to reach via the phone but can't get hold of him.

* * *

I'm trapped in some weird fairytale setting. and I think I'm an old woman. They are conspiring to kill me. What they don't know is that because I have been bitten several times by this particular snake, I'm now immune to its venom. It ends up killing them instead - that being a man dressed in a beautiful flamenco red dress and a young woman.

Then suddenly I'm in Singapore with a bunch of people. One of them stops because she wants to buy Shu Uemura. A man comes up to me to talk to me. He looks like Marc Jacobs. We get shuffled off and I say goodbye to him, marvelling over the Shu Uemura cleansing oil packaging.

A cute Asian girl gives me an eyeshadow palette which comes with cute soft toys.

* * *
Back to the old woman. I turn these quasi Greek monsters into books. The library gets mad because I don't return them to the library. I'm confused, as I tell them, they weren't books before. I meet another girl who tells me I remind her of a heroine in the Chaos Revelations series. I tell her I will look them up in the library. I do so and am confronted by my old schoolfriend Andrea. She wants to go to another section of the library. I shrug and say fine, do what you want. I find the Chaos Revelations series and there are more than four volumes and they appear to be graphic novel adaptations of Shakespeare's plays.

I go to another section of library and begin composing a tune on my flute, and writing variations upon the tune.

I introduce T to some people from EMS. Em comes up to me and tells me mean Luke will stay overseas forever and that someone else, either Rob or Felix are coming home early. She thinks I'll be sad and then I say, I'm glad Luke is gone forever, and wager a lot of other people are too.

My brother was in bed and wanted me to make him coffee. I told him he'd have to get up to at least choose what variety of coffee he'd like (we have these new pod coffee machine things). I somehow got conned into bringing him the coffee menu in bed.

* * *

My ear was aching. I had some paracetamol/codeine which apparently only worked when if I was taking it everyday, and not a once-off dose, as I wanted. I was at work and a man came through the telephone. I wasn't allowed to leave early even though I was going to miss a doctor's appointment.

* * *

I forgot that yesterday I dreamt of a Delorian - I was really excited about seeing it and was telling my mother but she didn't seem to share my enthusiasm. It was a light mint green, like it'd been washed with white.

My family and I are in Canada, with my godfather's family. My father, myself and my brother walk past an arena with high security because of China (?!?!). Apparently Vin Diesel is giving some sort of lecture. My father pulls out his mobile phone and prints off a ticket to attend. He puts it into the postbox nearby. The three of us kick down the postboxes and run off.

There are some indigenous Australians living under a bridge, and consent to have themselves filmed in covered in a weird jelly-like substance that will supposedly keep them warm overnight. My mother tells me not to step on the substance or something will happen to me.

We get back to the place where we are staying. My brother and I have a fight. I tell him to have a beer. He falls over. There is a slight scratch on his inner wrist and he tries to get me into trouble by squeezing as much blood as he can from it. I get antiseptic cream to look after it but he refuses to let me clean it. I show him my inner left arm and tell him to stop being such a fucking pussy.

We are staying at some weird sort of hotel. The woman in charge of the place is oddly tolerant of our antics. Myself and my cousin are fighting, though I'm not sure why. Our families are a consummate picture of familial dysfunction.

I'm back at high school and under the impression that the people I considered my friends are not my real friends. As soon as graduation is announced, I decide to skip attending the ceremony (coincidentally, I did this when I graduated at university - I was pretty unwell at the time and just opted to receive my degree by post. It is still in my room, in its cardboard tube).

Then my family decided they wanted to go out for dinner. I tried to get them to book a table but they wouldn't listen to my logic. When we got to the venue, there was this woman who was really half-octopus, half-woman and kept trying to seduce men in a particular family. Behind her ear there was a growth that gave her away as being an octopus, though upon recalling it, it sounds more alien than it does octopusish.

I pulled a tentacle - it had infinite eyes and reminded me of sea anemone.

dream, Tue 7/7/09

Dinner had been organised in my area with my mentor. For some reason my mother and brother had to hitch a ride, and then we picked up an acquaintance along Plenty Rd (a main road in the area I live in). We went to the house my mentor was staying at which was near the old bluestone church on Plenty Rd. He insisted my mother eat. He then drove off with my brother and acquaintance without my mother and myself. My brother tried to tell him to stop but to no avail.

* * *

I was running, after a long drinking session. I'd been dumped by my old housemate and some EMS friends at a bus stop after witnessing my schoolmate Cathy get attacked by a drunken primary schoolmate. I stayed to try and break up the fight, but the EMSians left me when their tram arrived. I waited for a Night Rider bus to get home instead.

I was walking with someone else and another girl on a motorbike began to chase us. The other girl wouldn't wait for me so I had to hide. I saw a utility vehicle drive past. It had a dead woman in it.

I got to somewhere like home. This girl on the motorbike found me and began to try and attack me.
